About Ticket Turtle


What we now know as Ticket Turtle was developed in 2003 as a custom system for Northwest Children's Theatre and School  (NWCTS)  by Ness Blackbird, long-time corporate and non-profit information systems consultant, and now, President and CEO of Ticket Turtle.

NWCTS needed something that would bring together their mailing lists, ticketing, and donor database- but because everything they considered was either too expensive, not useful, or both, they approached Ness to design a system.  Once NWCTS implemented Ticket Turtle, Portland area organizations began approaching us, and as we researched the alternatives, it became clear that Ticket Turtle fills an important need for software and service.

We now serve organizations across the US and Canada, and because of Ticket Turtle's flexibility, train rides, dinner theatre, faith-based organizations, schools, and more have joined our client community.  We've also formed important relationships with local and national businesses that nurture our clients, community, and earth.

Ticket Turtle is certified PCI compliant by web-based security certifier,  Scan Alert.  Our banking relationship is with Albina Community Bank,  one of only 55 community development banks in the country. We've purchased carbon off-set for all Ticket Turtle staff through the  Green Tags program,  and print on only 100% post-consumer recycled paper.

The name, you ask?  Why, Ticket Turtle?  Our name is intended to invoke the story of the tortoise and the hare.  The turtle is the unexpected winner, the thoughtful, well-planned victor in a race thought to be all sewn up. Like our company, and our software, we're a little unexpected- in all the best ways.

Patrick Spike, Director of Customer Relations


Spike has been working in theatre from every vantage point for more than twenty years. His long experience in IT and non-profit management gave shape to much of Ticket Turtle's design. Spike's involvement now inspires and defines Ticket Turtle's approach to its clients.

Poney Carpenter, System Architect, Consultant


Lifetime friend and colleague, Poney's 20 years of experience as a systems integrator, systems architect, and creator of web-based and Ecommerce systems were indispensable in the development of Ticket Turtle. He continues to be a compass by which Ticket Turtle guides its present and future.

Heather Blackbird, General Manager


Often referred to as the heart of Ticket Turtle, Heather co-founded Ticket Turtle with husband, Ness.  Heather brings a background in teaching, non-profit management, and the visual arts to her work within the Ticket Turtle community of clients and staff.
